Top Five Friday: My Most Anticipated Films Still To Come Out In 2014

Number 5: The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies.

This is a must see for any Tolkien Enthusiast, as Peter Jackson visits Middle-Earth for the (supposed) last time.
Set for a 12th of December release, the last instalment of The Hobbit trilogy will see Bilbo and company fight to protect the Dwarves homeland, and try with all their might to prevent Smaug from incinerating all of Middle-Earth. How can this not occupy a position on my most anticipated list, especially after the strength of 2013's The Desolation Of Smaug, and the sheer cliff hanger of an ending it provided.
I really believe that this film will be non stop excitement from the off, with many issues needing to be resolved. Including the minor problem of the fire breathing dragon.

Number 4: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1

Yes the list continues with yet another sequel. Due for a November 21 release, Mokingjay part one directly follows on from the events of Catching Fire. Katniss must now face the repercussions of her actions, and spread her wings to save Peeta and the nation from the corrupt Captial.
Going to see a new Hunger Games film has become a wonderful tradition for me and my beautiful girlfriend over the past two year, and this instalment will be no exception. I think Catching Fire did a terrific job of elevating the franchise, and I am intrigued into the new direction that this instalment seems to be taking us. From the trailers we can expect more grit and darkness which looks a treat, and that is why Mockingjay part one is my fourth most anticipated film coming up in 2014.

Number 3: Exodus: Gods And Kings

Yes despite the problems with casting, my curiosity for Ridley Scott's upcoming epic is still high. This film will chart the rebellion of Moses against Pharaoh Ramses, and the escape of the 600,000 slaves from Egypt.
Although questions have been justifiably raised over the white washing of characters, I still think Exodus: Gods And Kings will be a very executed high concept film. For instance Christian Bale as Moses, although his ethnicity in this role is questionable, we all know he is a very capable actor who will no doubt knock this role out the park.
However, the main reason for my excitement is Ridley Scott's direction. The production values and shots in the first trailer look stunning, and I can't wait for the portrayal of the plagues. Hopefully, this embodies the storytelling of Blade Runner and the visual beauty of Prometheus.

Number 2: The Imitation Game.

Due for a November 14th release, this film had my ticket secured as soon as I saw the trailer. This not only looks Oscar worthy, it feels Oscar worthy.
Following the tale of Mathematician, Alan Turing, who during World War two  is employed to help crack the Enigma Code, this seems like an emotional journey that will capture the minds of audiences everywhere. If ever a person's life story deserves to be told, Turing's life is probably one of the most justified tales that needs to be shared with the masses.
Cumberbatch seems to be terrific in the role, embodying all the emotional complexity of the character. I can sense an Oscar nomination, maybe even a win. And seeing as the film won the people's choice award at the Toronto Film festival, it seems all anticipation is justified. I can't wait for this.

Number 1: Interstellar.

Interstellar (2014) Poster
Yes how could this film not be my most anticipated film of 2014? My favourite director helming a project that seems to inspire the same excitement and wonder as the classics we have witnessed from Kubrick and Spielberg. I mean what's not love.
Interstellar looks terrific. The trailer have been a triumph, by providing enough peripheral information that the audience knows the overall concept. Yet, holding back enough information that we still are unaware of the major plot details that we know will be terrific.
The teaming up of Nolan and McConaughey will be fascinating to witness, and I think will be efficient as the True Detective star will hopefully be able to bring sheer emotional depth to the picture.
I think this film, like Inception, will showcase how Nolan has become one of the greatest directors in Hollywood at the moment. This is so different from anything he has done before, and that departure is a major factor in why Interstellar stands out as the must see film of 2014
