My Top Five Movie Posters.

My Top Five Movie Posters.

Eye-catching movie posters have became part of culture. There is no hiding from that fact, as we walk round any city in the world we are overwhelmed with wondrous images of the latest blockbusters,  our favourite stars and in some instances exquisitely irresistible advertising. So to celebrate an art form that we just can't escape, here are my top five movie posters in no real order.

Of all the film poster I have chosen none are really deemed as iconic as the spreadsheet for Steven Spielberg's 1975 classic. Popular culture adores the Jaws poster, with its wonderful blue surrounding the spectacle that is The Great White. Also, the ironic obliviousness of the woman casually swimming above adds to notion that you never know what's swimming below.

The Dark Knight.
This film poster has became as scorched in my brain as that Bat Symbol burning a hellish orange in the skyscraper above.  This brooding one sheet, with its extreme low angle, ensures that Christian Bale's Batman not only looks the business but feels the business too. Setting a precedent that comic book movies can be both serious and gritty. You need look no further than the tag line " Welcome To A World Without Rules", to realise that Nolan means business.

Trance.
Trance, a remarkably underrated Danny Boyle flick, captured my mind with both its technical  brilliance as well as wonderful movie poster. The use of primary colour, dissecting, disjointing and concealing MacAvoy's character, foreshadows how things may not be all what they seem.

Reservoir Dogs.
Reservoir Dogs Poster

Quentin Tarantino certainly has an eye for what a movie poster should look like, you need not look no further than films such as Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction and Django Unchained.  However, it is Tarantino's 1992 Reservoir Dogs that caught my eye the most. The phrase 'cool' is passed around frequently, but with the slick black suits, slim ties and George Baker's Little Green Bag playing joyously in the background, you don't get much cooler than Reservoir Dogs. And this poster captures it wonderfully.

Inception.

Christopher Nolan is terrific when it comes to visual spectacle. Inception was a triumph of mind and matter working harmoniously, and this poster certainly plays on this great feat. This poster captures the sheer scale, with the grey city scape folding itself over behind the Leonardo DiCaprio Led cast. Of course there is going to be an affiliation between my favourite movie and one of my favourite movie posters, but Inception be its sleek professionalism blended with subtle hints of complexity, captured my imagination.
