Top Five Highest Grossing Films Of 2014 So Far.

In a more serious and statistical Top Five Friday, The Reel Film Blog looks at the top five highest grossing film so far of 2014. With this summer movie season being dominated by sequels, it will be interesting to see who leads the charge at the box office. Firstly, a few notable mentions have to be given to the surging Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, as well as the unorthodox sensation that is Guardians Of The Galaxy, these films are right on the heels of the top 5, and we may see them creep into one of those spots by the end of 2015. Moving on all these statistics have all been taken from the worldwide box office gross, so lets see which films are raking in all the audiences cash.

Number 5: The Amazing Spider-man 2.

Total Gross: $708.3 Million.

Despite a lack of admiration, this relatively disappointing squeal still manages to cling on to the number five spot.

The second lowest performer in the USA on the list, this miss hit for Sony, has caused the studio to delay the friendly neighbourhood Spiderman's next solo property to 2018.

Sony, hopes, and in many way must pray, that audiences in the mean time are content with seeing Spidey's rouge gallery on display, as the studio sets to move forward with their upcoming Sinister Six franchise expected in 2016.

Number 4: Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Total Gross: $714 million.

Yes Cap and Co settle for number 4 spot, in what kick started Marvel's 2014 dominance and allowed audiences to salivate over the prospect Avenger: Age Of Ultron.

My second favourite Marvel film, behind the Avengers, cemented Steve Rodgers as a new favourite alongside usual front man Tony Stark.  Yes Chris Evans' portrayal of Captain America in his second outing, transformed the dull boy scout, into fan favourite.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier, set the bar high with its blend of all things Marvel, along side cold war thriller providing a breath of fresh air into the generic catalogue of comic book films.

Number 3: X-men Days Of Future Past.

Total Gross: $745 Million.

One of my top ten favourite films of all time, X-Men Days Of Future Past, is probably my favourite film of the year so far. I loved this film and I think it has every right to have number three position.

Undeterred by alleged matters surrounding director Bryan Singer, this film rocketed toward instantaneous success. Which capped of the great work carried out by Matthew Vaughan In X-men: First Class.

The overall plot is amazing and I would highly recommend anyone to try and find a way of watching this film, as soon as possible.

Number 2: Maleficent.

Total Gross: $754.2 Million

Yes Angelina Jolie's Disney reboot colossus worked its way to the surprise spot of number 2 on this list. I actually went to see this film on the same day I saw Days Of Future Past, and my god it was packed to the hill and it seems things must have stayed that way.

The alternate telling of the classic Sleeping Beauty,  was a master stroke for Disney's live action Fairytales. The cinematography was terrific and it was not a doubt that this film would become a success.

Jolie is terrific, and really does make the role her own. The success of this picture is greatly owed to her, as I feel without her influence this film would have dwindled into the background like other live action fairytales.

Number 1: Transformers: Age Of Extinction.

Total Gross: $1.8 Billion

Yes the only film that reached the billion dollar club this year happens to be the Micheal Bay monstrosity.

This film was the lowest domestically grossing in the United States, but managed to gross a staggering 300 million in China, making it their highest grossing film of all time.

Yes people wont let this franchise die. And despite the inclusion of fan favourite Mark Wahlberg, this picture struggled to gain any sense of refreshment, with many claiming it only continues to torment cinema lovers. However, many must be paying for this torment, because no matter what people say, no one can doubt that Bay's 'film' is a financial success.
